Occasionally a piece of furniture comes along that makes your heart go all-of-a-flutter. The new collection of chairs by Galapagos Furniture are the prime example. If you like your shapes mid-century (I do), your colours bright (I do) and your patterns bold (I do) then (like me) there will be a chair in this collection that will be your chair of dreams.
This is a collaborative collection with new fabrics and vintage furniture, featuring British fabric designers Korla, Claire Gaudion and Parris Wakefield Additions. The collection launches at Design Studio at Decorex in September.
The chairs are original vintage and newly made mid-century inspired pieces by Galapagos, while the fabrics are British designed, developed and made. Even the names of the chairs are stunning – Vermarette in rose and blue, Indigo Two, Inkat in ink blue, Splatter in steel and Alana in chalk pink, not to forget Neon Lights and Fierce Beauty. The poetic sounding titles perfectly match the beautiful pieces which are statement with a capital S.
I know what you’re thinking though. How could you justify one of these beauties in a house with kids, when they’re likely to get crayon and yoghurt splatters galore. Well, you can’t really. And I’m not suggesting you put one of these chairs in your kid’s bedroom, but if you’re lucky enough to have a separate grown-up space then this could be just the piece you need to turn it from average to amazing.
With starting price tags from £625 these don’t come cheap, but when you think of it as an investment piece that’s likely to stay in the family for a long time then it justifies the price. One chair from this collection is worth a thousand run of the mill knock-offs from the high street.
I mean, just look at them…
