Bringing Summer Indoors

Despite what the weather would have us believe it’s July outside and, even if it doesn’t feel like it, summer is here. If your home’s in need of some sunshine and a summery pick-me-up (because, let’s face it, it’s not exactly scorchio outside here in the UK) this is the post for you.

Read on for some must-have summer buys from the Roost shop and some sunshine inspiration to suit all purse-sizes.

If you’re usually colour-shy then July is your month to get bold. Make up for the lack of blue skies by embracing vibrant blues inside instead. Ditch your monochrome cushions in favour of bright clashing prints: Ikat, folksy numbers and embroidered silks. Going colour crazy inside doesn’t necessarily mean painting your walls or redecorating an entire room. A few choice additions can make a huge difference and breathe fresh life into a space.

On the walls, consider swapping out some of your usual prints for a new selection of brightly coloured art. Or create a simple gallery of framed dried flowers – a brilliantly cheap and easy way to introduce some floral sunshine onto a wall.

If winter’s all about layering up the textiles and creating a cosy mood, summer’s about turning your indoor space into an extension of your garden. Slubbly linens alongside soft silks will bring a fresh and light look to a space without stifling your room in too many layers. Go big on foliage and follow our simple tutorial to create a beautiful floral display (or ten).

If you can’t bring yourself to go too colour crazy then stick with a more calming boho palette of soft white and deep greens. Palm prints are your friend here along with a few artfully placed large cheese plants or indoor ferns. Check out our post about the jungle trend for more ideas on this theme.
