I’m currently putting the finishing touches to a complete bedroom overhaul and, without giving too much away, it features plenty of blue and plenty of gold. It’s the one room in the house which has a distinctly grown-up feel, with the colour palette creating a real sense of division from the rest of the house. This was a deliberate decision.
I love light, bright and airy spaces and our home is full of clashing pattern and pops of colour, with lots of upcycled and retro pieces. However, in our bedroom, I wanted a totally different look. There’ll be a full reveal post coming very soon (for a teaser you can check out the IKEA hack we did on our new shelves which have replaced our dressing table) but, for now, here’s some blue and gold colour palette inspiration to wet your interiors loving whistle.
When I was pinning bedroom ideas like a crazy person I found I was repeatedly drawn to dark, inky blues with splashes of glittering metallics. There’s something very grown-up and luxe about this look, which isn’t usually “me”. For some reason, though, it felt like the bedroom was the ideal place to indulge in a spot of sophisticated style. Perhaps because this is the one room in the house that is 100% for the adults. There are no kids’ toys in here, no books, no pieces of Lego to trip over. This is a sanctuary that I love to escape to – an early night with a good book or Netflix on the iPad is my idea of a rocking evening these days – so I wanted the bedroom to reflect that.
Blue has long been touted as a calming colour, and there’s something oddly hypnotic about really dark blue walls. We switched over our light curtains in favour of dark blue wooden blinds from the Kaleidoscope Collection by Clover & Thorne, and found that having all dark woodwork, blinds and walls creates a quietly peaceful space that makes for restful sleep. It’s womb-like (not in a weird way!), and is like sleeping inside a warm hug.
Once the room is finished to Pinterest standards I’ll do a full post and video tour but, for now, here are some accessories I’ve put together which you can buy direct from this very post if you’re also planning a blue and gold bedroom…
If you’re not in the mood to shop today then how about a bit of moodboard inspiration you can pin for later?
