Katie Ellison blogs at the multi-award winning family lifestyle blog Mummy Daddy Me. As well as blogging about family travel and life as a mum, Katie regularly shows her great eye for interiors with posts about home renovations and room updates. Katie’s style is contemporary and bright, with a clean and crisp palette punctuated by bold pops of colour and statement accessories.
“We live in a little three bedroom detached house in Cambridgeshire,” says Katie. “We’ve lived here for six years now, having bought it just before we got married in 2009.”
“It’s certainly not our ‘Forever Home’, but it’s full of happy memories. The house is about 25 years old and is on a modern estate. When we bought it the whole place was really plain. There was lots of beige but with black radiators and green shagpile carpets, so we’ve slowly put our stamp on it over the last few years.”
When it comes to an interiors style, Katie admits her taste can be pretty eclectic and she’s definitely drawn to colour. “I’m obsessed with bright primary colours and a lot of our home has a distinctly retro feel, yet I also like lots of white to make it crisp and clean. I really enjoy mixing old and new pieces together and I love patterns. Plus, I have a mini obsession with wall art. We have over 76 IKEA Ribba frames on the walls of our home – they’re a nightmare to keep cleaning!”
“My favourite place to find interiors inspiration is actually Instagram,” explains Katie. “I follow loads of fabulous accounts on there that cover a range of budgets. But I also love to look at blogs – and you can’t beat flicking through a glossy magazine.”
Katie recently worked with Wickes on a kitchen renovation project which involved vlogging and blogging about her brand new kitchen. The new space is crisp and smooth with plenty of sleek lines and a monochrome palette.
“I really love subway tiles,” says Katie. “We have them in the kitchen and bathroom. I love our bathroom which is also done in a monochrome style. I love lighting some candles at the end of a hard day and having a dip in the bath.”
Most recently, Katie’s been sharing her brand new extension which, like the rest of her home, is bright and crisp with statement accessories and her signature wall prints in frames. “We’ve been saving for this space for such a long time that it now feels surreal for it to finally be finished,” says Katie.

To get Katie’s look in your own home she recommends mixing old with new, and hitting up Instagram for some interiors inspiration. “We buy modern pieces but then also head to little bric-a-brac shops to find bargains,” says Katie. “I would also say that you should never be afraid to experiment with colour. If you love bright colours then add subtle touches along with white and neutral tones. It’s your home, your rules, so just experiment!”
