Nestled on the Atlantic coast, just off the Vendee in France, you’ll find the island of Noirmoutiers. Famous for its speciality salt, Noirmoutiers is a small island rich in minerals with picture perfect beaches and a bygone atmosphere, almost like stepping back in time. With its vibrant blue shutters, terracotta tiles and whitewashed walls there’s a real Meditteranean feeling to the island, although the many crêperies, traditional basket shops and incredible cuisine let you know you’re most definitely in France.
From the green of the pines to the pale blues and greys on the shutters and buildings, the colour palette of Noirmoutiers is fresh, gentle and calm. Translate these colours to a family home and they’d sit perfectly in a grown-up’s bedroom, stylish bathroom or calming baby’s nursery.
If you like your neutrals then this is a great palette, because there’s a whole variety of greys and creams in the buildings of Noirmoutiers town. The whitewashed walls sit alongside the odd pop of salmon pink and bright red but, mainly, it’s greys, creams and milky blues.
If you’re taking interiors inspiration from a trip to Noirmoutiers you won’t be able to leave without a new-found love of the basket. Home storage never looked so pretty.
