Fresh white walls, country cottage style accessories and plenty of sunny family photos make Jenny Taylor’s home an inviting, relaxing and welcoming space. Jenny blogs at Let’s Talk Mommy and regularly shares her interiors inspiration and family living tips on her site. She also runs the popular Instagram hashtag #LifeCloseUp which is full of pretty home ideas and joyful Insta-ready scenes.
“We live in a new build that we moved into two weeks before B was born,” says Jenny. “We chose a quiet neighbourhood near Manchester that had other young families living nearby. We love our local parks and live close enough to the city to visit regularly, but far enough away to enjoy the outdoor spaces.”
Jenny describes her style as an organic blend of her beloved country cottage look but toned down to suit a new build home. “I love the shabby chic country style but it’s not always easy to incorporate this into a new house. I have little home accessories here and there but mostly our home is a contemporary look with lots of grey and white. Even though I adore country living it wouldn’t tie in well with my high gloss countertops and modern monochrome kitchen theme!”
When it comes to colour schemes, Jenny’s all about the neutrals – particularly white and grey. “I can add various accent colours to these shades and change the look with the seasons,” says Jenny. “I love white furniture and grey and white hardwood floors. I like to introduce splashes of vibrant colour with cushions, vases and wall hangings.”
“My favourite space in my home has to be my breakfast bar,” says Jenny. “There used to be shelves in our kitchen island so one day I took a hammer to it – literally. I broke the shelves out, ordered a back panel and bought three white bar stools from IKEA with cushions. I love sitting there having my morning coffee or working away on my laptop while my littlest naps.”
Soft neutrals may be the name of the game in the main part of the house, but in Jenny’s kids’ rooms there’s a real dedication to colour. “My daughter’s room is one of my favourites in the house. The pink is on one wall while the rest of the room’s painted cream. It was our wedding colour so it’s special to us. I made a collage above her dresser and used pom poms above her bed as a mobile.”
